Embodied Health

Dance Movement Psychotherapy – this is a therapeutic approach that uses dance, movement, the body and everyday gestures to figure out and process what’s happening inside ourselves. It works on the principle that our body, mind and emotions are connected. As we change one aspect so we can have an impact on, and make changes to, the others aspects of ourselves.

For people who are:

  • Managing anxiety and stress
  • Dealing with loss
  • Feeling stuck, low mood, lethargic, or unmotivated
  • Experiencing extreme emotions
  • Wanting to understand themselves more
  • Finding it difficult to communicate with others. For example; English is not the first language, living with dementia, learning disabilities, or have relationship issues

What can you gain from this approach?

  • Understand better our inner world
  • Improve relationships with others
  • Be more compassionate with ourselves
  • Find useful ways to manage challenging emotions
  • Feel more comfortable with our bodies
  • Unblock our energy when we just can’t get motivated

Managing Wellbeing

Tai Chi with Enid – Benefitting from this ancient oriental practice, we focus on improving wellbeing through relaxing the upper body, strengthening the legs and core (dan dien) and working with energy (chi). The aim is to respect and work with our bodies while ‘do less to gain more’.

Enid teaches the Art of Chi, Stevanovitch method of tai chi chuan working with the 24 Postures (Yang Short form), 108 Postures (Yang Long form), a selection of Qi Gong exercises, internal visualisations and breathing techniques.

What can you gain from this practice?

  • Increased sense of energy
  • Improved sleep
  • Feeling calmer
  • Greater suppleness
  • More stability, less falling
  • Stronger core
  • Deeper breathing
  • Feeling relaxed & refreshed

Adapted Tai Chi – Based on the same method as regular tai chi chuan classes with exercises adapted to suit the needs of the participants, enabling you to get the most from sessions, whatever your circumstances.

Suitable for people:

  • Living with dementia
  • Living with disabilities; physical or cognitive
  • Older adults
  • Requiring specific focus; for example, increasing concentration, improving coordination, enhancing team spirit

Relaxation – Using a variety of approaches from tai chi chuan, qi gong, yoga, exercise and dance practices to gradually feel more at ease in body and mind.

What can I gain from relaxation techniques?

  • Refreshing my mind
  • Deepening my breathing
  • Grounding and centering myself
  • Calming my nervous system = relaxed, body and mind
